Making an entrance: Rihanna arrived to the Grammy Awards in Downtown Los Angeles tonight in an extremely revealing Jean Paul Gaultier dress

Lady Gaga arriving concealed in a giant egg may have caused the biggest stir at the Grammys.

But Rihanna had an altogether different game as she made her entrance to the glitzy event, leaving little to the imagination in a very revealing dress.

The What's My Name singer looked breath-taking in Jean Paul Gaultier gown, made of strategically-placed white ruffles which ran in circles down the entire dress.

Glamorous: Miley Cyrus looked fantastic in a black and gold flowing dress while Katy Perry went angelic in a white gown complete with wings and a bejewelled silver bra

Grammy-nominated Rihanna, 22, teamed her look with a red wig as she sauntered down the red carpet in her barely-there number.

Rihanna's friend Katy Perry also opted for white, wearing an outfit with a flowing train, angel wings and a bejewelled silver bra.

Her grandmother and husband Russell Brand joined in the fun, with Perry joking: 'If I don't take home a Grammy, I still take home my Granny.'

Shining stars: Justin Bieber's girlfriend Selena Gomez and LeAnn Rimes kept with the popular gold theme while Jennifer Lopez dazzled in an incredibly short silver dress

Nicki Minaj took a walk on the wild side clad head-to-toe in a leopard print.
The up-coming rapper and singer channelled her inner animal in skin-tight leggings teamed with a dress with cutaway panels.

She completed her look with a huge blonde wig complete with a black streak.

Matchy matchy: Kim Kardashian and model Heidi Klum showed off their fantastic figures in their revealing gold designs on the red carpet

The 26-year-old star set off her look with hot pink lipstick as she strutted her stuff before photographers at the Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles.

Fellow RnB star Ciara went for an eye-popping blue dress which was split to the thigh, with a Wonder Woman meets Naomi Campbell look.

There was a lot of sparkle and gold going on in the fashion stakes, with Kim Kardashian and model Heidi Klum championing the colour.

In great shape: Newly-svelte Jennifer Hudson looked stunning in a blue gown while Ciara went for a revealing blue dress split to the thigh

Glowing: A pregnant Selma Blair cradles her bump as she arrives at the bash and, right, country singer Jewel and her husband Ty Murray

American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez also looked stunning in an impossible short silver dress teamed with killer heels.

Miley Cyrus, meanwhile, wore a flowing black and gold dress while Nicole Kidman looked breathtaking in a fishtail gown.

Earlier, Grammy-nominated Selma Blair transformed from her casual day-time look as she made her entrance.

Starlets: Actress Nicole Kidman dazzled in a fishtail gown while Eva slipped into a ruffled black and white oufit

Be my date: Nicole was joined by her husband Keith Urban and the pair put on an affectionate red carpet display

The pregnant actress, one of the first to arrive for a pre-party ahead of tonight's ceremony, wore a floor-length purple gown, which flowed over her growing bump.

The 38-year-old was obviously feeling proud of her new curves, caressing her stomach with a free hand as she posed for photographers.

famous as an actress, Selma has been nominated for her first Grammy this year.

Ruffles: Kelly Osbourne donned an asymmetrical short purple dress and E! host Giuliana DePandi looked great in beige

Group shot: Kelly and Giuliana hosted a special Grammys Fashion Police on the network this afternoon along with stylist George Kotsiopoulos

Selma is up for the Best Spoken Word Album for Children for the audio book Anne Frank: The Diary Of A Young Girl: The Definitive Edition.

Also early arrivals were Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino and his Jersey Shore co-star Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi, who are hosting MTV's coverage of the show.
With his 10 nominations, Eminem has the potential to sweep tonight's Grammy Awards - as well as win that elusive album of the year trophy.

But the gifted and twisted rapper might get tripped up by some fierce competition, including a song that rivals him for coarseness - Cee Lo Green's '(Expletive) You,' which is in competition with Eminem's 'Love The Way You Lie,' featuring Rihanna, in the record and song of the year categories.

Eminem's 'Recovery' was 2010's best-selling album and a favorite to win in the album category.

Making an impression: Florence Welch of the band Florence and the Machine dazzled in a swan-styles dress complete with an orange panel on the back

Leggy: Upcoming singer Aleesia wowed in a cutaway dress while comedian Kathy Griffin, 50 showed off her killer body in a slinky yellow and gold gown and, right, Miranda Leigh Lambert

It marked a major comeback for the rapper, considered one of the greatest but who had been addled by a prescription drug addiction and critical malaise in recent years. It is the third time he's been nominated for album of the year; he's lost twice before.

But he also faces tough competition in the category, from the likes of Arcade Fire's 'The Suburbs' and Lady Gaga's 'The Fame Monster.' Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' and Lady Antebellum's 'Need You Now' are also nominated.

Lady Gaga won the first award of the day as the Grammys pre-telecast ceremony, hosted by best new artist nominee Esperanza Spalding and Grammy winner Bobby McFerrin, began in the afternoon.

It's where the bulk of the Recording Academy's 109 awards are doled out. The top nominees usually don't attend; Lady Gaga wasn't present to pick up her trophy for best short form music video for 'Bad Romance.'

Away from the Jersey Shore: The Situation and Nicole Snooki Polizzi pull their best red carpet poses; the pair are hosting MTV's coverage of the night

'Need You Now' was the second best-selling album of last year, buoyed by the crossover success of its lovelorn title track. The country song is also nominated for record and song of the year.

Other nominees for record of the year include Jay-Z's 'Empire State of Mind,' the New York native's anthem for his city featuring Alicia Keys, and rapper B.o.B's 'Nothin' On You,' with a melodious hook courtesy of Bruno Mars.

Although Mars is enjoying solo success on the charts now with 'Just The Way You Are,' which got him nominated for best pop male vocal performance, the bulk of his seven Grammy nominations come from his collaborative efforts.

He is also a co-writer on '(Expletive) You' and his production group, the Smeezingtons, is up for producer of the year.

'(Expletive) You' is an unlikely hit - a retro groove with a vulgar rebuke to a former girlfriend and her new lover. Its popularity was boosted when the clean version of the hit, 'Forget You,' was performed by Gwyneth Paltrow on Fox TV's 'Glee.'

Paltrow and Green are slated to sing the song on the Grammy telecast on Sunday, along with Jim Henson's puppets, completing an ironic family-friendly transformation of a wash-your-mouth-out-with-soap song.

The collaboration is among the many buzz-worthy moments the Recording Academy has planned for the Grammy telecast.

Mick Jagger - along with Raphael Saadiq - is set to perform a tribute to the late soul great Solomon Burke, marking the first time Jagger has sung on the Grammy stage.
He'll join two other icons at the Grammys this year, Bob Dylan and Barbra Streisand.

Ailing icon Aretha Franklin will be honored in absentia by Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera and Martina McBride, Yolonda Adams, and Florence Welch of the best new artist nominee Florence and the Machine.

Another best new artist hopeful, Justin Bieber, is set to sing with his friend Jaden Smith (son of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith) and Bieber's mentor, Usher. Eminem is also slated to perform with his mentor, Dr. Dre.

Other artists expected to perform on Sunday's show include Bruno Mars, Arcade Fire, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Drake and Rihanna. The ceremony will be broadcast live on CBS from Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented Saturday to Julie Andrews, Roy Haynes, the Juilliard String Quartet, the Kingston Trio, the Ramones, Dolly Parton and George Beverly Shea.

In the pre-televised ceremony earlier, Ali Farka Toure & Toumani Diabate won best traditional world music album for 'Ali And Toumani,' while Bela Fleck won for best contemporary world music album for 'Throw Down Your Heart , Africa Sessions Part 2.'

In the Latin awards, Grupo Fantasma, a funky Latin orchestra from Austin, Texas, won best Latin rock, alternative or urban album for 'El Existential' after making its second trip to the Grammys. The Spanish Harlem Orchestra won best tropical Latin album for 'Viva La Tradicion,' its second win.

Glad rags on: Faith Evans slipped into a LBD with silver detailing, singer and dancer Janelle Monae donned a trouser suit and country singer Martina McBride

Other Latin winners were Alejandro Sanz of Spain won best Latin pop album for 'Paraiso Express'; Little Joe & La Familia for best Tejano album; Intocable for best Norteno album; El Guero Y Su Banda Centenario for best Banda album.

ChocQuibTown, the Afro-Colombian hip-hop trio nominated for best Latin rock, alternative or urban album, performed 'De Donde Vengo Yo' (Where I Come From), which won Best Alternative Song at the Latin Grammys in November.

Buju Banton of Jamaica won best reggae for 'Before The Dawn.' Banton faces life in prison with a trial scheduled to begin Monday, five months after a previous jury hung on federal drug trafficking charges.

British duo La Roux won for best electronic album.
French DJ David Guetta and Dutch DJ Nick van de Wall, known as Afrojack, won for Best remixed recording, non-classical, for Guetta's One Love Club remix of Madonna's 'Revolver.' Guetta also won in that category in 2009.

In the traditional American categories, Tia Carrere, who starred in the film 'Wayne's World,' won for best Hawaiian album for 'Huana Ke Aloha;' Chubby Carrier and The Bayou Swamp Band won for best zydeco or Cajun album for Zydeco Junkie; Gathering Of Nations Records' won best Native American album for '2010 Gathering Of Nations Pow Wow: A Spirit's Dance.'

The Beatles' complete remastered studio recordings won for best historical album. The Beatles last won for the remixed 'Love' album, in the compilation soundtrack and surround-sound categories.
